Biomedische Research Week - 2011

Om het ‘Biomedisch’ onderzoek op de campus Jette in de kijker te zetten, werd voor het eerst de ‘Biomedische Research Week’ georganiseerd. Dit succesvolle evenement werd opgestart op initiatief van Katrien Van Beneden (Phd student, alumna Biomedische Wetenschappen) in samenwerking met de 2de masterstudenten Biomedische Wetenschappen.

Programma:

- Maandag 4 april ‘Bachelors BMW onderzoeken 2de Master’ : 1ste en 2de bachelorstudenten volgen voor één dag 2de masterstudenten tijdens hun researchstage. Deze stagedag werd afgesloten met een ludieke, wetenschappelijke quiz. Foto's
- Dinsdag 5 april ‘Masters ontdekken PhD’ : masterstudenten BMW nemen deel aan de PhD dag ‘Research Unlimited’ die voor de eerste maal georganiseerd werd op de Campus Jette. PhD studenten stelden hun onderzoek voor met een orale of poster presentatie.
- Woensdag 6 april ‘Dag van de Hypothese’ : 3de bachelorstudenten geven een orale presentatie van een Wetenschappelijke Hypothese.
- Donderdag 7 april ‘Dag van de Biomedici’ : voor alle studenten Biomedische Wetenschappen. In de voormiddag presenteren 2de masterstudenten hun thesisonderzoek en in de namiddag werden een brede waaier aan biomedische beroepsuitwegen toegelicht door het beroepenveld en alumni BMW. Programmaboekje

The First PhD Day on the Medical Campus - 2011

In follow up of the first day for PhD-students which was organized on the main campus on May 28, 2010, the first PhD day on the Medical Campus was held on April 5, 2011. The organization started, with support from the DSlsm, from the initiative of one PhD student (Katrien van Beneden, ANAT) who wanted to stimulate the interaction between PhD students from different research groups and disciplines on our campus. The idea and the spirit behind this initiative turned out to be very contagious and Katrien rapidly found support in a team of enthusiastic fellow PhD students representing different research teams on our Medical campus: “Research Unlimited” was born.

Their initiative was announced with posters and a call for contributions from campus Jette’s research community via the DS-lsm website. Over a short period of time, 139 participants enrolled for the event and 73-high quality abstracts were received covering almost all research groups of our campus. An exciting program of 12 oral presentations was organized, with four sessions chaired by different panels each time consisting of a PhD student and a faculty staff member. The other 61 contributions were presented as poster in the AGORA building, where poster viewing happened during the sandwich lunch. An abstract booklet was made available to all participants at the registration desk. The scientific content offered a refreshing diversity, ranging from clinical studies to more fundamental research.

The organization of the whole day went on perfectly and the successful day was rounded by announcement of best oral and best poster prizes and a cozy reception with music by a student band (The White Socks). It is clear that when a PhD day is organized as an initiative ‘by students for students’, it acquires a unique added value where organizational competence and scientific passion can meet. The initiative succeeded in bringing together PhD-students and Master students of various disciplines. From the currently enrolled 246 DS-lsm members, 73 were registered for this day among a total registration of 139 participants.

The initiative was supported by The Doctoral School of Life Sciences and Medicine. Best poster and best presentation awards were sponsored by Promega.

 

Dag van de Doctorandi VUB - PhD Research Day 2010

phdresearchdayDe drie Doctoral Schools en de centrale Doctoraatsbegeleiding presenteren op vrijdag 28 mei 2010 de eerste Dag van de Doctorandi VUB. De afgelopen jaren hebben we gelijkaardige succesvolle initiatieven gezien in verschillende faculteiten. Voor het eerst zal er nu op de Vrije Universiteit Brussel een groots evenement georganiseerd worden voor alle doctorandi van alle richtingen. Er zijn zo’n 1200 onderzoekers die aan de VUB een doctoraatsproefschrift voorbereiden. Tijdens deze dag zullen zij de mogelijkheid krijgen om elkaar te ontmoeten en om hun project voor te stellen aan de volledige VUB-gemeenschap. Succesvolle Campus Event Jette 24 april 2010

Op zaterdag 24 april heeft in het Brusselse groen van Jette het ondertussen vermaarde Campus Event plaats gevonden. De Vrije Universiteit Brussel, het UZ Brussel en de Eramushogeschool Brussel organiseren dan hun infodag. Ze gooien de deuren open om toekomstige studenten kennis te laten maken met hun (bio)medische en andere opleidingen. Maar student zijn in Jette houdt veel meer in dan alleen maar studeren. Zoals campus Jette veel meer is dan een universiteit en een hogeschool. Je hebt er ook Health City en het EetKaffee. Al deze partners van de campus hebben bijgedragen aan het Campus Event.
